How many times have you been warned that things that seem too good to be true usually are? If you are cautious online, the claims that offer a completely free website design service are likely to raise some questions. And rightfully so! Asking the right questions is crucial, and we encourage them. At the end of the day, the more we talk, the more open our communication becomes.

As you can imagine, one of the questions we often receive is how can we offer free web design services? The short and simple answer is that we exchange the opportunity to work on real-life projects for free services. The WAcademy internship program would not be as successful as it is today without all our amazing business partners that let interns into their lives and entrust them with their most precious ideas, visions and hopes.

As we are on a mission to make education accessible worldwide, we couldn’t be happier that more than 30,000 small and medium enterprises (SMEs) have already allowed our interns to learn and apply their skills while building real-life websites. Because of this, the hundreds of interns who have already left the WAcademy program have portfolios that enable them to spread their wings and start their careers.

The WAcademy model

To understand how we facilitate free services, it is important to understand the WAcademy education model.

WAcademy was founded in 2017 as a web design company. As we trained our own interns and mentored the less experienced employees, an idea to offer web design courses sprung up. Soon, the company morphed into an EdTech operation that began offering internships. However, to ensure the highest level of training, we knew we could not rely on theory and small practical tasks alone. We needed real-life projects.

It is no secret that both small and medium-sized businesses usually operate on tight budgets. Especially the ones that are in the beginning stages. If you are a small business owner and you have looked into building a business or ecommerce website, you probably know just how expensive it all can be.

Individual web designers and agencies can charge you $1,000-$3,000 per website. And once they are done, you are left dealing with the website on your own, which means you might have to spend more on hiring a professional who can assist.

And if you take the website builder route, you might think you are saving a lot of money, but the average $20-$30 monthly fees eventually add up, and website builders are quite limited. This means you may be restricted when building exactly what you want.

Since WAcademy strives to make education accessible worldwide, we train our interns for free. And to provide them with real projects that can help them grow real portfolios, we work with businesses that need professional websites.

To create a symbiotic relationship, we are partnering up with small and medium-sized businesses that do not have the opportunities that big, established businesses already have. As a result, our interns and our business clients can grow together.

Why do we train aspiring web designers?

WAcademy is a team of young professionals, many of whom started their careers thanks to successful internships. Keeping this in mind, we continue on the path of fostering new talents internally, and many of our own interns remain within the company to deepen their knowledge and skills.

The passion to help aspiring talents jumpstart their careers moves us forward, and we aim to offer a level of training that helps WAcademy become the #1 internship platform in the world. And this is not a goal we are only dreaming of. We are currently following an action plan that will help us reach this milestone within this decade.

We firmly believe that the success of our interns is the success of WAcademy, and so we aim to provide quality training and practical experience to every intern motivated to complete the program. We have web design tips to share, and we are eager to do it.

At the moment, we are actively expanding our network of educational institutions that offer training in web, UX and graphic design fields. We are partnering with these institutions to provide students with practical internships that empower them to build their portfolios and ensure better employment opportunities after graduation.

Why do we assist small and medium businesses?

Whether you run a small online shop or share your knowledge via a podcast, small businesses drive local economies and provide employment opportunities. In remote areas of the world, small businesses are especially vital because they empower people with fewer opportunities to support themselves and, at the same time, their local communities.

At WAcademy, we strive to build a hub for aspiring professionals, but we could not do that without the support of small businesses that trust our interns to create their websites. In return for their trust, we offer access to talented and motivated interns who can provide high-quality work and eliminate the need for business owners to find the right web designers or build websites themselves.

Our SME partners can save time and resources by outsourcing their projects to our interns, which allows them to focus on their core business activities and priorities. We also believe cooperation between SMEs and interns can help foster professional relationships beyond WAcademy-driven projects. Ultimately, the goal is that every intern enters the job market after completing the WAcademy internship!

Gediminas Jankauskas, Founder of WAcademy

We are providing our interns with high-quality training, which is not possible without our SME partners. It is crucial for us to build trust within the community so that we can continue growing the internship program and, eventually, reach our goal of becoming the #1 internship platform in the world. Therefore, one of our priorities is ensuring that our interns provide the best possible services for our business clients.

Aside from ensuring a steady flow of real-life projects for our interns, we also work with SMEs because we understand the importance of supporting small and up-and-coming businesses. So, whether you need a custom ecommerce or business website or branding services, WAcademy and our interns are ready to support you.
